Seek the Eternal

The power of the human soul lies in it's God-given ability to think beyond itself. If we strive all this life merely to satisfy our own needs & to find happiness solely for ourselves, we will be miserable - our body & soul will deteriorate. Only when our hearts are set on what is greater than ourselves, a vision & purpose larger than our egocentric ways, will we thrive in both earthly & spiritual matters. The problem with the twenty-first century is that all of us have fallen into the trap of individualism without God, without others, and without a sense of destiny. We seek our own pleasure without looking for the reason why we seek these things. The answer is simply that we are actually seeking something more than these temporary, fleeting acquisitions and accolades!

My friends, there is so much more than what we see with our eyes and hear with our ears. Sometimes we focus so much on the tangible that we forget the eternal. Contrary to what the scoffers think and say, the eternal is actually the essence of our being. Without the eternal, we are lost, spiritually and mentally. We do not have an anchor. We cling on hopelessly but for a moment to the things of this world that will rust and decay.

Maybe that is why Jesus famously said to his eager disciples, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you."

What is the kingdom of God? I believe it has to do with the immutable foundation stones of faith, hope and love; justice, peace and mercy. The sad fact is that we have all become preoccupied with "all these things" without first seeking the kingdom of God and desiring to live out its principles. Some of us will continue to be "preoccupied" with transient matters until the day we die - but I pray we are first shaken up from our slumbering complacency!
